Today we’d like to introduce you to Skye Besserman.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Skye. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My business is closely tied to my healing journey, which first began when I met my husband’s mother. She’s a spiritual life coach, reiki healer and shaman. Around that time, I was struggling with some physical pain in my body that doctors weren’t able to diagnose and I was also having uncertainty in my career path. My mother-in-law suggested working with an intuitive to help me find the clarity I was so desperately seeking. After just one session with a healer, I felt so much lighter in my body. It left me with a deep inner knowing that this work would somehow be part of my life purpose. For the next eight years, I worked and studied with reiki healers, qigong masters, shamans, crystal healers and intuitives from all over the world. Each one has assisted me physically, mentally, creatively, and spiritually… what I discovered completely shifted my life.
I gained a new perspective on the world around me, and the life I wanted to live. I embraced a holistic lifestyle, started listening to my body, and nourishing it with foods that supported me. I became more aware of my thoughts and how they impacted my vibration. I learned how to unlock, develop and trust my own intuition. And I also started working with crystals and minerals.
As my healing journey continued, my husband and I began searching for our first home. The home we were drawn to was a real fixer-upper. Fortunately, we could see its potential. I put my design degree to use and we embarked on a full home renovation. We tore down walls, gutted our kitchen, bathrooms, and completely reworked the space. The result was a bright and beautiful sanctuary we now call home. I fell in love with the process of transforming our home and creating peaceful, rejuvenating spaces. My friends and family took notice and soon began asking me for design advice and help with their homes. I later realized I had an ability to tune in to a space, sense its energy and clear it. It was a hidden talent I didn’t know I had. I just knew I couldn’t keep it hidden any longer. It was time to share my passion for design and the healing arts so I created The Nurtured Spirit.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all! Once I came up with the idea for the Nurtured Spirit, it took me two years to develop the courage to launch it. I was so afraid of being ridiculed, rejected, or worse, failing. I had to allow myself to be vulnerable, and let go of what family, friends, and strangers would think about me once I put myself out there. It wasn’t an easy task, but I knew I had to do it.
During this two-year window, I also became a mom. I gave myself a year off to be with my son, to focus on my family and to experience what motherhood meant to me. It turned out to be a challenging year. I felt like I had to do everything by myself–Keeping a clean home, cooking wholesome nutritious meals, watching my son full-time while my husband was at work, juggling acting opportunities and small design jobs, having time with my husband, time for myself, basically trying to achieve the status of super mom and super wife. But instead, I was a super EXHAUSTED. I had no energy nor was I inspired to work on launching my business. I had to ask for help and that was really hard for me to do. It’s something I’m still working on.
In the end, I knew launching wasn’t going to happen overnight and decided to allow myself all the time I needed. That let go of the self-imposed pressure to launch my new business when I lacked the energy, time and focus. In doing so, I felt rejuvenated, inspired and driven. As of early October, I officially launched The Nurtured Spirit and couldn’t be more excited!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the The Nurtured Spirit story. Tell us more about the business.
The Nurtured Spirit is my platform for self-expression and where I allow my creativity to soar. It’s where I blend my passion for the healing arts with my love of interior design, crystals and so much more. Coming Spring 2020, I plan on taking new clients for interior design, and offering a service called Space Clearing. It’s where I clear dense energy, uplift the space and balance the energy to create greater harmony.
At the moment, my online shop offers crystals because I believe they are a beautiful addition to any environment and essential in creating a sacred, healing space unique to “you”. I have a special relationship with crystals and I really believe in their ability to assist us. When I source crystals, I only pick the ones I feel guided to and that want to work with people.  I tune in and cleanse them energetically and physically. I meditate with them and activate them. And I like to empower others to learn how to work with them too.
I’m also offering a service called Crystal Consultations. It’s where I tune in and work with clients on discovering which crystal will best support and guide them and teach them how to cleanse, program, and where to place their crystal for optimal benefit. In addition, I offer Personal Shopping/Sourcing for those seeking large or rare crystal pieces.
The Nurtured Spirit is also a place where I plan on sharing my story, and exploring content that supports our health and wellness at all levels of our being. I want to build a community in which we connect, support, empower and inspire one another. And at some point, I’ll offer both creative and healing workshops that further support us on our unique journeys.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
For me, it’s more about divine timing and synchronicity and trusting my intuition. Some might consider that luck. I believe we all have the power to choose our path and create a life we want for ourselves. We just need to get out of our own way, get back in touch with our Spirit, our joys and passions and the desires of our heart. And also become more aware of our thoughts. Our thoughts are so powerful.
